"It might be said that a book in a man's head is safer to the world than a book bound in calf skin. At least the book that exists only in thought stands less of a chance of hurting someone."
-Herman Melville
Hey Everybody!

Well, I've come a long way since November of 2007, which was when I laid down the first words of "The Cu-Callan Saga" which was my first written novel.
Not a bad effort, as far as I'm concerned. Not great, but 300,000 words is no small feat.
So, since then I produced another novel on my own; "Alidyve's Journal." and then a third piece called "A Boston Winter."
Well, just yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the annual meeting of the Connecticut Author's and Publisher's Association, and one of the perks available to those attending is the option of sitting down with a real-deal literary agent and try and sell them a book pitch, provided you prepare a cover letter and submit it beforehand.
Well, by pulling a few strings I managed to sit down with not one but two agents over the course of the day.
Now, this was the first time I actually attended CAPA-U, and my father, who is a member, has attended previously and had tried to sell other of my novels, with out any success.
Needless to say, I set the bar of my expectations exceedingly low for this weekend. I went in fully expecting both agents to turn down my book proposal for "A Boston Winter" down flat.
So I was completely unprepared for both of them to express immediate and palpable interest based off my cover letter alone.
Both of these effete professionals want to see more of my work. But there is a catch for one of them.
One agent wants to read my book as is, but another wants me to trim the thing down from 190,000 words to 120,000 in the space of about a month.
So, looks like I've got me some editing to do.

So, five long years of looking pretentious in cafe's or otherwise devoting my nights and weekends to the long, soul-crushingly solitary process of churning out and editing prose, all of it boiled down to one moment where I stared into the abyss and found the promise of something beyond the stultifying ennui of obscurity.
There's still a long road to hoe, and a lot of work to be done, but knowing I lave a foot in not one but two doors is a great blessing.
Now, to pump me up for success, everyone please rise and sing along with my badass battle cry!

I can go twice as high
Take a look
It's in a book
A Reading Rainbow
I can go anywhere
Friends to know
And ways to grow
A Reading Rainbow
I can be anything
Take a look
It's in a book
A Reading Rainbow
A Reading Rainbow
Hopefully this really is the beginning of my literary career.
