Venus, The second planet in our solar system.

Also known as the morning star, the evning star, the dragon star, the witch star.
Venus's vivid green atmosphere makes it glow particularly bright in the sun's reflective light (soemtimes you can see your shadow cast from it's light) And the ancient Romans named it after their godess of love and beauty.

The Morning Star, in christianity is another name for the Devil, Taken as an interpretation of Pagan worship of the planet in question.

"Hail, Earendil, Brightest of Stars!"
Sorry, I'm a Tolkien fan and couldn't resist.

Is Earendil the Middle-Earth equivalent of Venus? Was that intended by Tolkien?

Just curious. :XD:

Yes. Earendil is the Morning Star.

In Tolkien's myth Earendil is the favorite star of the elves, because it reflects the light of creation, of heaven. If you've seen the movie, Frodo's light glass (the Phial of Galadrial) contains the light of this star, and evil things can't abide it. The star is a symbol of hope for the people of Middle Earth.

The idea for both the name of the star and the term Middle Earth are derived from a scrap of an Old English poem that goes *éala éarendel engla beorhtast / ofer middangeard monnum sended.* Translated "Hail Earendel, brightest of angels, over Middle-earth to men sent"

I'm leaving a ton of stuff out for simplicity's sake. If you're still interested, look up "Earendil" on wikipedia. Tokienology is fun stuff.

Wow...
I think I just got schooled. :XD:

It's safe to say I don't know a huge amount about Tolkien, but more than the layman and enough to enjoy the movies.

I do, though, appreciate you taking the time to explain this to me.

Thank you. :)

You're welcome. :)

And it's quite an interesting sight you have. I guessed at the theme you might have going and I was right. :D
Still, you've got a very well put together site and the product you're making available doesn't look too bad either.

Thanks for using my work and sticking to your word and giving me credit.

Keep on truckin'! :)
